Walk: 26 km
We were up just after 6am in order to have a relaxed, full breakfast to start the walk at 8am. We left the park at 8am and drove to the start of the walk and started walking at 8:20am. We bypassed the Moss Gardens and Amphitheatre but called in at Ward’s Canyon and the Art Gallery where we had mornos looking at the aboriginal art work on the rocks. It was then onto Cathedral Cave and ultimately Big Bend – the end of the formed trail. The park map said it was a 22km round trip, but by the time we had reached Big Bend, we had already done 12.5km and still had to do Moss Garden and Amphitheatre on the way home.
After topping up the batteries at Big Bend with our pre-packed lunch, we made our way back. Doing the Amphitheatre and Moss Garden on the way home was really tough as they both involved some climbing. However, they were definitely worth seeing, probably the pick of the sights. The last 3km were the longest 3km ever, and by the time we got back to the car, we had done 26km!!! Wendy started to slow considerably at the 25km mark, but Greg was as strong as ever! He did admit to being a little bit buggered when we got back to the car though, so Wendy did not feel too bad about slowing down. We were originally going to ride the 4km to the start of the walk/hike and Wendy was so pleased they drove as the “hills” on the way home looked more like the “Alps”.
After getting back to the van, we decided an ice-cream was the order of the day, so off we went to the shop. We sat outside, checked our email on the free wifi and ate our ice-creams and they tasted very good indeed. It was then time to hit the showers to freshen up.
We both had
a pasta dish for dinner to refuel and then we headed off to the camp kitchen to
play cards with Bostons and Fischers. It
was a relatively early night as we were still quite buggered.
