Drive: 237

We had agreed on a 10am departure the night before and we drove out of the van park about 10 min early. We had not yet decided on where we would end up, but Chinchilla or Miles were on the list of destinations. Mornos was had in Bell in a lovely park complete with shelter which was just as well as the weather was not that nice. We continued on to Dalby where we both refuelled. Wendy spent 14 months in Dalby in 1983-4 and did not recognise one bit, apart from the school opposite the servo. Well, not even the school looked the same; it was all a bit more modern! Our next scheduled stop was Chinchilla but as it was only lunch time, we decided to stop for lunch and then press on. So, we all had Maccas for lunch and it fed the worms very nicely.
By the time we got to Miles, the light drizzle experienced on and off had turned to rain, so we decided it was a good place to stop. We found a caravan park with cabins (Fischers decided a cabin was best as the camper trailer took a bit of setting up) and checked-in and set-up. The rain did not let up at all and continued well into the night. The park had obviously been set up for the FIFOs, with many cabins which the majority of which were now empty. The powered sites were all taken though, and they even had to turn some vans away. Apparently six months ago, all cabins were occupied and had been for the two years prior. Tonight, only about 6 cabins out of the 20 available were occupied. Maybe they need to get rid of some of the cabins and make them van sites?
Pre-dinner drinks were hosted by Fischers in their cosy cabin. Dinner was eaten in our own homes and then it was into bed. We were woken, quite rudely, about 2am by what we thought was someone banging on the door, or on another van door. But, no it was a truckie who had pulled up right outside the park and decided to do some maintenance on his rig. Together with the all-night sounds of the road-trains passing by, it was not a very restful sleep
